Independent Practice Associations (IPAs)

Saphier and Heller attorneys have formed IPAs and have negotiated, drafted, and provided advice concerning contracts between IPAs and third-party payers, as well as between IPAs and providers. We also provide advice regarding various aspects of California’s Knox-Keene law.

One of our IPA projects involved all of the legal work organizing a 200-person IPA, including structuring the governance of the organization to take into account the differing interests of primary care physicians and specialists, drafting provider agreements between the IPA and the primary care and specialist physicians, respectively, and negotiating various agreements with third-party payers.

Many of the types of legal services we provide generally are applicable to independent practice associations.  Please see PRACTICE AREAS in this website.
